Hardware Product Manager

Job description

About JUMP

JUMP is building the future of urban mobility: shared electric bikes that are the quickest, most enjoyable, and most empowering way to get around a city. Cheaper than most public transit and faster than cars in traffic, JUMP e-bikes radically improve local transportation. Founded in 2010, JUMP pioneered dockless bike share and has deployed more than 14,000 bikes in 6 countries. Our goal is to transform cities, making them more sustainable, equitable, and livable through electric mobility.

To make this vision a reality, we need to grow our team. We place tremendous value on our company’s roots and culture: a mix of ingenuity, controlled chaos, hard work, and sense of purpose. This is a great opportunity to join a rapidly growing team that is shaping the future of transportation.

About the Role

We are currently seeking a motivated Hardware Product Manager to bring our physical products from concept through production and into operation. Great judgement, a comprehensive understanding of technology, and a passion for incredible customer experiences are absolute requirements for this role. Equally important are the ability to distill high-level business and product goals into concrete development milestones and the aptitude to organize a diverse set of technical stakeholders around an ambitious project schedule.

Required is a familiarity with all stages of physical product development — ideation, prototyping, scope determination, vendor selection, engineering, tooling, reliability testing, certification, production, deployment, and improvement. Throughout this process, the Hardware Product Manager will execute with elite aptitude, enabling their team to create products which are operationally reliable, holistically beautiful, and at the bleeding edge of what is possible.

Responsibilities

  • Be a positive and collaborative owner of your hardware product category.

  • Be organized and decision-oriented, keeping projects on schedule and well-communicated across teams.

  • Have wide domain awareness, staying current on technological and competitive advances in the category.

  • Work closely with technical experts to define product specifications, timelines, and supporting materials.

  • Organize inputs from other business divisions to keep the development team steadily focused on delivering a responsive and innovative product.

  • Simultaneously manage a wide variety of time-critical tasks across disciplines such as supply chain, mechanical engineering, test engineering, and marketing.

  • Resolve conflicts among team members and put in place safeguards to prevent them from arising again.

Requirements

Experience and Skills

  • The ability to make decisions quickly, communicate effectively, own mistakes while recovering from them gracefully, and lead with humility.

  • An inspiring and unique perspective that will strengthen the foundation of a team building world-leading electric mobility.

  • 5+ years in the product development field - strong preference for consumer electronics, batteries, and transportation.

  • 2+ years managing teams, projects, and products.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
